Young people

This is not just a topic that affects people at the stage when they are thinking of starting a family.

It can play on the mind of younger people who know they might want a family many years down the line.

This site is for you if, when dating, you have worried about questions like:

  • When should I discuss this with my partner?

  • How is the best way to have this conversation?

  • Will they still want to be with me?

Couples

Never Alone aims to support partners throughout this journey by giving them a safe space to:

  • Connect with others who are supporting their loved ones.

  • Connect with people going through the family planning process who can share how they wanted to be supported at that time.

Men

Family planning is still seen as a “women’s issue”, but this is simply not true.

Never Alone aims to break this stigma by making the process of starting a family less isolating for men.

Maybe you are worried about passing a chronic health condition on to your children or that it might cause complications during the pregnancy?

Maybe you feel uncomfortable discussing this with your peer group but would still like support from a community?

If so, this site is for you.

Women in the workplace

Has family planning affected your performance at work?

Maybe you had to miss meetings to go to doctors’ appointments or were left off a project by a well-meaning colleague who knew you were going through a tough time.

Do you feel that your career suffered?

If so, this is a space for you to support and be supported by others who have experienced similar issues.

Please do not mention the name of your place of work. These are issues that are generic to many workplaces.

Older Generation

Have you successfully navigated a pregnancy using non-traditional family planning methods?

Are you a potential grandparent who is keen to learn and support a pregnant couple on the fertility journey? Our pregnancy forum is for you.

Friends & Family

Navigating a pregnancy using non-traditional family planning methods is difficult. People going through it need all of the love and support they can get.

Friends and family can be a wonderful support system. But it is often so hard to know what to say.

Connect with others to learn how they wanted to be supported by their friends and family so you can help yours.

Pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes: Your Month-to-Month Guide to Blood Sugar Management
Amazon.co.uk: Vieira, Ginger, Smith CDE, Jennifer: 9781544267340: Books

This book is written by a woman who navigated pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has been considering a pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes themselves.

Reading it opened my eyes to the difference having a support system of those with the same health conditions makes throughout the pregnancy journey (be it through meet up groups, web forums, friends, hospital support groups, etc.).

From the first page, it was as if I were reading the thoughts that had been going through my own mind: Should I adopt? Should I have a surrogate? I know I can have a pregnancy, but should I? I’m afraid. I don’t know what I need to have a healthy pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes.

It was comforting to read someone else who realised her feelings around pregnancy had been fuelled by fear, and openly discusses this. This was fear that her health was a threat to the baby’s and that pregnancy was a threat to her own wellbeing.

She also openly discusses the guilt she felt and how she navigated this in her relationship with her partner.

The book is motivational and uplifting. It shows how amazing the level of control you can achieve is when Type 1 Diabetes become the utmost concern in your life to protect the baby growing inside you.

Do not give medical advice or act on the medical advice of others provided via the website.

Never Alone aims to support people with the emotional rather than medical aspect of family planning with long-term health conditions.
